Shipwrecked and starved on a barren volcanic island of the romantic Galapagos group near the equator, the bodies of a man and woman were found by the crew of a San Diego fishing boat, the SANTA AMARO. 

Believed to be the victims of the South Seas Island tragedy, Mr and Mrs. Wittmer are shown in the photo with their 2-year old baby and a 14-year old boy, son of Mr. Wittmer. The photo was snapped by Capt. Allen Hancock of Los Angeles when he visited the Wittmers on Charles Island in the Galapagos group last Feburary.
