1947.
"The winter of 1946-1947, Lew and Tib Dodd spent harvesting cedars on the Grindstone Bay, Orcas Island property. Lew formed a triangle boom using three 70-ft boomsticks toggled together. He towed all the lumber for the house over to Yellow Island using a Navy tug with his "one lunger" bringing up the stern. It was the beginning of an incredible project. All the materials for the cabin were scavenged or beachcombed. Lew spent a total of $400 for the cabin. "Windows and nails don't seem to float up on Yellow's beaches!"
Dodd family notes shared with web admin.
