23 January 1953 Eleven tugboats totaling 2,530 HP, were required to tow this 500,000-bd feet raft of peeler logs from Shaver's boom, near Swan Island, to Multnomah Plywood Corporation's plant above the Hawthorne bridge. Eight hours were required by the big tow fleet to move the raft about three miles against the strong flood current of the Williamette River. Unknown photographer.
