1944 ❖ LAKE UNION HOUSE SINKING

On the muddy edge of Lake Union, half-sunken, the houseboat that John McCoy, Marine Veteran of Guadalcanal, and holder of a Unit Citation, bought with his back pay, suddenly listed and sank without warning. The marine, his mother, and his pet dog all scrambled for safety. "After being on troop ships, I have to get scuttled in my own hometown," observed McCoy."
