1930 ❖ OVER THE SIDE IN FUR-TRADING COUNTRY

Captain A.P. Jochimsen

of the Arctic fur trading schooner KARISE,
was being taken over the side with his trunk
to be placed in a small boat and rowed to a
a plane anchored 50 yards from the ship.
He was airlifted by the veteran Alaskan pilot,
Frank Dorbrandt, to hospital in Nome.
The captain had been stricken desperately ill
aboard his vessel on the Siberian Arctic coast.
